AIGuide  ยท  Last updated: April 11, 2026

Overview

AIGuide is an audio tour app that uses your device's GPS to find historical and cultural sites nearby and narrate their stories as you walk past them. This privacy policy explains what data is collected, how it is used, and your rights.

Data We Collect

Location Data

AIGuide requests access to your location only while the app is in use (foreground only). We do not track your location in the background. Your GPS coordinates are used solely to:

How Location Data Is Used

Your location coordinates are shared with the following third-party services to deliver the app's functionality:

  1. OpenStreetMap Overpass API (overpass-api.de) โ€” to query nearby points of interest by geographic bounding box. Only a bounding box derived from your approximate location is sent; no persistent identifier is included.
  2. Wikipedia API (en.wikipedia.org) โ€” to fetch descriptive text about nearby sites. Only site names are sent; your location is not transmitted.
  3. AWS Bedrock (Claude AI) (bedrock.us-east-1.amazonaws.com) โ€” to generate natural-language narrations from site descriptions. The text sent includes the site name, a Wikipedia extract, and contextual metadata (e.g., distance). Your location coordinates are not sent to Bedrock.
  4. AWS Polly (polly.us-east-1.amazonaws.com) โ€” to synthesize narration text into audio. Only the narration text is sent; your location is not included.

All requests to AWS services are made directly from your device over HTTPS using time-limited credentials. No AWS requests are routed through any AIGuide-operated server.

Data We Do NOT Collect

Data Retention

All location data and generated narrations are ephemeral โ€” they exist only in device memory for the duration of your app session and are discarded when the app is closed. No data is written to disk beyond the in-session POI cache (which is also cleared on restart).

The third-party services listed above (OpenStreetMap, Wikipedia, AWS) have their own data retention policies. Requests to these services carry no persistent user identifier from AIGuide.

Children's Privacy

AIGuide does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. The app contains no account system and no mechanism to collect personal data from any user.

Security

All network requests use HTTPS/TLS. AWS requests are authenticated with short-lived SigV4 signatures generated on-device.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Significant changes will be noted in the App Store release notes and reflected in the "Last updated" date above.
